Settling your account with us

We understand that many people have concerns about how they are going to meet the cost of a funeral and what the timeframe is for settling their account with us.   Examples of funeral costs can be found below together with details of our flexible payment options.  We have based the examples shown on the current cost of an attended cremation service (£3832.00).

Please note, unattended direct cremation services are excluded from the following options, for direct cremations payment must be made in full prior to the cremation taking place.

Your funeral director will discuss the funeral costs with you and provide a verbal estimate as part of your discussions, this will also be noted on our Client Agreement Form. If the funeral arrangements are made during a face to face meeting with a funeral director, our Client Agreement Form will be completed during that meeting. If the arrangements are made over the telephone, a digital copy will be forwarded to you. Our written estimate and confirmation of the date and time of the funeral will follow as soon as is practicable after the arrangements are confirmed. 

If you are unsure how you will meet the cost of the funeral you have arranged with us, please speak with your funeral director or a member of the Crake and Mallon team. We are here to help. If you are in receipt of a qualifying benefit you may be able to make a claim the Funeral Expenses Payment from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). We accept payment by debit card, credit card, bank transfer (BACS), cash or certified cheque payments.

Options for payment – funeral costs

Full Payment

Payment in full at least 5 days working days before the funeral takes place. Should you choose this option we would deduct £95.00 from our professional service fees.

Notes: If you are submitting our invoice to a bank or solicitor for payment (rather than paying us directly), please ensure that they are in a position to settle our invoice within the timeframe noted above. Our prompt payment discount applies only to invoices settled in full prior to the funeral taking place, otherwise our full professional service fees will be charged. If you are unable to meet this timeframe, we would then ask that arrangements are made to settle our account through one of the alternative options noted below (either 40% deposit or through the credit option). We understand that you may be reliant on funds being available through a solicitor or bank, in some circumstances we are able to waive our request for a deposit (for example where the solicitor or bank is able to confirm that funds to clear our account are available). Please discuss this with your funeral director who will be pleased to help.

Deposit Payment

Payment of 40% deposit at least 5 working days before the funeral takes place. The remaining 60% balance to be paid within 28 days of the date of our invoice (after which interest charges may apply).

Notes: If the total cost of the third party charges (disbursements) exceeds 40% of the total cost of the funeral, you may be asked to pay the higher amount. If you fail to settle your account on the due date, we may add interest to your account (interest is calculated at 4% above our bank's base rate and is calculated from the payment due date until the date payment is made). If we need to instruct debt collection agents to assist with the recovery of our costs, we may also recover from you the fees we incur.
