We understand that many people have concerns about how they are going to meet the cost of a funeral and what the timeframe is for settling their account with us. Examples of funeral costs can be found below together with details of our flexible payment options. We have based the examples shown on the current cost of an attended cremation service (£4106.00).
Please note that for arrangements where the total cost of the disbursements exceeds 40% of the cost of the funeral, you will be asked to pay the higher amount (i.e. the total cost of the disbursements). This is particularly relevant for burials, where a new grave is requested, due to the high cost of grave purchases in this area.
Unattended direct cremation services are excluded from the following options, for direct cremations payment must be made in full prior to the cremation taking place.
Your funeral director will discuss the funeral costs with you and provide a verbal estimate as part of your discussions, this will also be noted on our Client Agreement Form. If the funeral arrangements are made during a face to face meeting with a funeral director, our Client Agreement Form will be completed during that meeting. If the arrangements are made over the telephone, a digital copy will be forwarded to you. Our written estimate and confirmation of the date and time of the funeral will follow as soon as is practicable after the arrangements are confirmed.
If you are unsure how you will meet the cost of the funeral you have arranged with us, please speak with your funeral director or a member of the Crake and Mallon team. If you are in receipt of a qualifying benefit you may be able to make a claim the Funeral Expenses Payment from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). You can find out more about this payment here.
If you are making a claim to DWP for assistance with the cost of the funeral, you will still need to be in a position to pay a 40% deposit prior to the funeral taking place. Claims to the DWP can take up to three weeks to be processed, if the claim fails the whole of the cost of the funeral will become the responsibility of the person making the arrangements. We cannot guarantee that the DWP will grant your claim but we do have an understanding of how they make a decision. Please ask your funeral director or a member of the team should you require any further guidance. We are here to help.
We accept payment by debit card, credit card, bank transfer (BACS), cash or certified cheque payments.
For those who wish to settle their account by instalments, Crake and Mallon have partnered with Funeral Safe, who are dedicated to funeral expense lending. You can find out more below or please ask a member of staff for details.
We offer two main options for settling your account with us:
Option 1: A prompt payment discount of £95
Payment in full (including third party charges) at least 5 working days before the funeral takes place and receive a discount of £95.00 on our fees.
Please Note: If you are submitting our invoice to a bank or solicitor for payment, please ensure that they settle our invoice within the timeframe noted above. Our prompt payment discount applies only to invoices settled in full prior to the funeral taking place, otherwise our full professional service fees will be charged.
Option 2: Deposit payment of 40% of the total cost of the funeral
Deposit to be paid at least 5 working days before the funeral takes place. The remaining 60% to be paid in full within 28 days of receipt of our invoice (after which interest charges will apply – see note below).
Please Note: If the total cost of third party charges exceeds 40% of the cost of the funeral, you will be asked to pay the higher amount. If you do not make payment to us by the due date, we will charge you interest on the overdue sum and any associated debt recovery costs where applicable. Please ask for further details.
