Funeral Arrangements

Since 2021 all funeral directors have been legally required to publish a price list for a standardised set of products and services. This is to help you think through your options and make choices, and let you compare prices more easily. A link to our Standard Price List is below, together with additional information and prices for crematoria in our area, which are within a 30 minute journey of our funeral home.

Below you will find some examples of funeral costs which may assist you. We have based these costs on the types of service most frequently chosen by the families we care for but should you require a more detailed quotation or further information on any of the services we provide, please do get in touch.

We understand that you may have concerns about how you are going to meet the cost of a funeral and what the timeframe is for settling your account with us. We offer two main options:

Option 1 – Payment in full at least 5 working days prior to the funeral taking place and receive a discount of £95.00 on our fees.

Option 2 – Payment of a 40% deposit at least 5 working days prior to the funeral taking place, with the remaining 60% of the cost being payable within 28 days of the funeral taking place.

For those wishing for more flexible options, Crake and Mallon have partnered with Funeral Safe*, who are dedicated to funeral expense lending.

Our uniquely personal service

These examples accurately reflect our charges but we pride ourselves on the “personal touch” that we can offer for any funeral arrangements entrusted to us. We have a wealth of experience of arranging funerals that uniquely reflect and honour the life of a loved one and we can offer our help, advice and suggestions for some special touches which can be incorporated into the funeral service, which are meaningful and personal to you and your family.

And as part of our uniquely personal service to the families we care for, we offer the following free of charge, complimentary services for all traditional, attended funerals that we arrange, saving the families we care for at least £290.00 based on the current day prices.

Complimentary Funeral Notice in the Evening Gazette

A free of charge, published notice in the Evening Gazette newspaper, together with an online notice on the Evening Gazette’s website, allowing you to notify other family members and friends of the funeral arrangements. You can add photographs, special memories and tributes and if you wish, details of your chose charity for donations and the opportunity for donations to me made online.

This represents a saving of £150.00

50 Complimentary Order of Service booklets

We offer 50 complimentary Order of Service booklets for each traditional, attended funeral we arrange, giving you the opportunity to share the service content and perhaps some special photographs with family and friends who are attending the funeral.

This represents a saving of £140.00 (based on the cost of external printing)

Please note free of charge Order of Service booklets are for our in house printing only. If you require an Order of Service from an external printing provider, charges apply.

The cremation fee includes the use of the Chapel at the Crematorium but does not include the cost of any further requirements such as web-casting or visual tributes. Our fees for the care of the deceased include the washing and dressing of the deceased but specifically excludes the fee for embalming, which (if requested) would be an additional £95.00. We have based the cost of a Minister/Celebrant on the current average cost but please note that costs may vary depending on the Minister or Celebrant who is appointed to take the service.

A direct cremation differs greatly from what many people know as a "traditional funeral". A direction cremation is a very limited service without ceremony, with no visitation to the funeral home and no mourners attending. Your loved one will be washed and dressed in a simple gown and cared for in our funeral home until the day of cremation but please note this service specifically excludes the opportunity for you to visit your loved one in our Chapel of Rest. The date and time of the cremation will be determined by ourselves and is dependent on availability. Funeral arrangements are to be made at our office or over the telephone and our invoice will need to be paid in full prior to the cremation taking place. The ashes can be returned to you after the cremation if you wish or may be scattered at the crematorium where the cremation takes place for no additional charge.

We have noted the use of the Crematorium Chapel at Stockton Crematorium for a service prior to the burial taking place. Although referred to as a Chapel, this can accommodate all faiths and beliefs (the cost shown does not include web-casting or visual tributes). We have based the cost of a Minister/Celebrant on the current average cost but please note that costs may vary depending on the Minister or Celebrant who is appointed to take the service. Our example shows the lowest cost of a new grave (for two interments) at Durham Road Cemetery in Stockton, there are a number of grave options available and costs do vary according to requirements and additional fees may be payable for non-residents. Please ask for further details.

Our fees for the care of the deceased include the washing and dressing of the deceased but specifically excludes the fee for embalming, which (if requested) would be an additional £95.00. Our example shows a graveside service with a woodland burial at the Blue House Woodland Burial Site, near the Hurworth Burn Reservoir. Woodland burials differ from traditional burials, it is a more natural environment with trees and native wildflowers planted on and around the grave, and only a small grave marker (there are no traditional headstones). Only biodegradable coffins can be used, so we have based our example here on a traditional wicker coffin. The grave fees we have quoted here are for burial in a single grave (for one interment), with an adopted oak tree. We have based the cost of a Minister/Celebrant on the current average cost but please note that costs may vary depending on the Minister or Celebrant who is appointed to take the service.
