Foreword by Alison Crake, MBA FCMI, Senior Partner
Crake and Mallon Funeral Service was established in 1971, by my late father Robert Crake. Robert - known as Bob, who was originally from East Rainton, in County Durham, and began his career in the funeral profession in 1940. He moved to Stockton in 1956 as a funeral service manager and then set-up his own business in 1971. Originally called "Robert Crake Funeral Service" the company's first premises were in Skinner Street in Stockton and the "staff" consisted of just my father and mother, Dorothy.
In the earlier part of 1973 my father's former colleague and close friend, Joseph Mallon, joined him and the company became known as Crake and Mallon Funeral Service. Both my father and Joe were well known and well respected throughout the community and the company steadily developed over the following years. My brother, also called Robert joined in 1974, I followed in 1979, closely followed by our brother-in-law James Ross, who joined in 1981.
As the years progressed we realised that much larger premises were needed and the summer of 1991 we purchased our current premises in Norton Road. These premises stand on the site of what was once the Wesleyan Chapel, founded in 1887 and which stood until the 1950's.
We now have around 10,000 sqft of space, which includes extensive office space, six private chapels of rest, garaging for two fleets of vehicles and private arrangement rooms.
